As many of you might know by now, I am pregnant and currently 27 weeks 😉
Hubby and I first found out when we were in Thailand on holiday. We attended a beautiful wedding of our friends Moira & Contstant on the island of Phi Phi! It was a proper barefoot beach wedding and we loved it! I couldn’t party the night away as my feet were so swollen I couldn’t see my ankles. (Unbeknownst to me I was already pregnant.)
Next stop was Cambodia. Hubby and I walked and walked and walked to see all the amazing temples of Ankor. My feet was so swollen and painful that hubby put his foot down and took me to hospital. I refused a suggested blood test by the Dr, thinking it was unnecessary as all the walking and heat caused my feet to be swollen – hahah if I only knew.
On our way back to Thailand we met up with friends, James and Yolandi, that we met at the wedding and headed to Khao Sok National Park just outside of Phuket for a week. It was absolutely amazing there. We stayed in a beautiful tree house right next to the river. We took tubes down the river everyday, had a BBQ with the locals and Yolandi and I (and our river tubes) even hitched a ride on motorcycle with a side car as we floated too far down river and needed to get back to our treehouse haha!
On our way back to Phuket, I felt a little strange (dizzy, nausea and emotional, among other symptoms). My hubby stopped at the pharmacy. (He has been telling me for more than a week that he has a feeling I’m pregnant, but I just brushed it off.)
We stopped at a market to buy some souvenirs and I headed to the bathroom – and Whalaaa the test was positive (and the other 2 too).
We couldn’t believe it – God blessed us with the miracle of life – we were so happy and excited!
The next thought that came to my mind is the fact that I will be giving birth right in the middle of wedding season in Dubai. I had a few wedding around the time of my delivery and my first thought were how am I going to tell my clients!! – I will soon be writing a blog about it and how I broke the news to my clients and their response.
My Journey so far:
Frist Trimester: This was the difficult part – I was really sick with morning sickness (actually whole day sickness). Some days I couldn’t get out of bed as the nausea would hit me so hard. I could eat anything that I ate before as it would make me sick. They only 2 things that I could stomach was Chicken Noodle Cup of Soup and 2min Noodles – so bad, I know!! – Everyone kept telling me “don’t worry the second trimester is the honeymoon of pregnancy and you will feel much better” – I kept thinking to myself “how can this feeling-horrible-all-the-time-sickness just stop when you hit 12 weeks?”
Second Trimester: The easy part – It was like clockwork – as soon as I hit 12 weeks the nausea just disappeared, I had my energy back and I felt super awesome! Best of all – I could eat again!!!! Up until now we haven’t told anyone about my pregnancy except the parents, a few industry colleagues and the few who figured it out as I wasn’t drinking wine anymore. (I had by fears and just didn’t want to jump the gun.) Pregnancy is such a personal journey. For myself and my husband, Jacques it was really personal, and we just didn’t want to tell the whole world straight away. It was our decision and we don’t regret it in any way! We wanted to make sure everything is ok with our little blessing.
As we were waiting on the Downs test results (14 weeks) – hubby had a health scare. We went to South Africa in October to get some test done – initial test didn’t come back with such good news and he was sent for further investigation. During this time we were suppose to find out if we are having a boy or a girl and would then announce my pregnancy. I had my 16 week/4 month scan in SA and unfortunately baby wasn’t playing along and hubby still didn’t get his test results back. It was just not the best time to announce anything. I had to support my husband during this difficult time and his health was my first priority. I had to be strong for him as he was shattered by the initial results.
On 21 of October 2015, after chasing the Dr’s for a week about the test results, we finally got the call to say everything was fine and that he should not worry about anything. The initial ultrasound was wrong and that the MRI confirmed that he was in the all clear – we were so happy and relieved. Tears rolled! We made the pregnancy announcement 5 min after the test results came through and finally we could share our happy news with everyone.
We just had to include our other baby, Peanut in the announcement – she is going to be a big sister!
On 11 November 2015, at 20 weeks/5 months we found out that our baby is a GIRL!!! Dr said she is perfect and that all her organs are in place and that she is growing well. She was sucking both her thumbs!
I am now in the last week of my second trimester. She is kicking up a storm! The last scan was so clear – our parents says she looks like daddy 😉
I have been working all the way so far shooting engagements, maternity and weddings. My clients have been amazing!I am now on a small break to be ready for my next wedding on 16 January 2016. My last wedding before I go on maternity leave will be on 25 Feb 2016
I would like to thank my hubby for taking such good care of me during my pregnancy. The foot massages, back rubs and letting me have most of the bed lol. Love you loads!
